In our English lessons, we wrote instructions for making a Christmas
card. We then tested them out and edited them. Emily made her
instructions into a video for others to follow. She hopes others will
find it useful.
Welcome to the Year Six website. On this website, we will be sharing examples of our children's work. This page is a workshop containing examples of learning in action. The work will not be the children's 'final draft’.

6MR DT Lego rides
What a creative two weeks!
The children first, in teams, discussed ideas before coming up with a solid plan for their Lego theme park rides. This was inspired by our September trip to LegoLand.
The children then start to construct their rides and were given a motor to include some motion.
They then used a coding program to communicate with their ride.
Below are some video clips to demonstrate their successes!

Year Six Science Day!
Last week, our Year Six children enjoyed a fantastic science day!
In maths, they learnt that in just one cell of their body, the DNA would stretch to 2m! They were then set on a mission to find how far their DNA would stretch if they were to use all of the cells in their body!
We were very lucky to have a visitor come and deliver a science DNA workshop too. The children learnt about what DNA is and the structure of it. They then got to extract the DNA out of a strawberry. They were fascinated by the end result! A big thank you to MundiPharma for visiting and delivering the workshop! What an experience for the children!
Part of the day was also setting the children off to plan, set up and carry out their own scientific investigation as independent scientists. They were told they needed to investigate light and shadow. It was lovely seeing their great team work, applying scientific skills and reviewing their learning from Year 3 & 5 too!
Below are a range of photos from throughout the day.

Figurative Language Crossed the Road...
Work by Joseph, Nancy & Emily:
1.The metaphor crossed the river of cars.
2. As slow as a snail on crutches, the simile crossed the road.
3. Crash! The onomatopoeia didn’t quite make it.
4. As the personification crossed the road, the car headlights stared at it.
5. The hyperbole crossed the road the busiest road in the whole world!
6. Jerry Alliteration jerked joyfully across the road while jumping, eating jam.
7.The slug crossed the road, but it as not at all sluggish!
- Stomp! The onomatopoeia crossed the road.
- Amy Alliteration aimlessly strolled across the B road.
- The metaphor is a cheater running across the road.
- Like a bird, the simile flew across the road.
- The personification crossed the sad cars.
- The hyperbole crossed the widest road in the world.
- The “slow” irony turned out to be really fast.
- The oxymoron walked silently across the deafening road.
- Anna Alliteration angrily ambled across an amber road.
- Squelch! The onomatopoeia slumped across the road.
- As quietly as an eagle ready to catch its prey, the simile crossed the road.
- The pen - who was called personification - walked aimlessly the road.
- The loudest boots ever, were worn by the hyperbole crossing the road.
- The irony approached the new ‘fabulous’ road to find that it was still a gravel pit.
- The oxymoron crossed the disco music loud silent road.

Year 6 Newspaper Reports
Theft of the Kindness trophy!
Last half term, children in Year 6 loved being mini journalists and reporting on the theft of the Kindness trophy. They investigated the scene of the crime and then wrote their own articles reporting on the events, evidence and possible suspects.

Long Division Success
As part of our current maths learning, we're focusing on long division. Charly worked in a group in school and found the concept rather challenging. She went home, spoke to her mother, did a bit of extra work and has since reaped the rewards of her perseverance and independence. Well done Charly!
