Our Time @ CJS

In assembly this morning, Eva, Katie, Amanpreet and Georgina read out the following that they had written about their 4 years at our school:

It was really scary walking into Year Three for the first time, but it was worth it.  Greek Day was amazing: we dressed up and had some people come in and give us information on how the Greeks lived. Next came the nativity where everyone auditioned and learned their scripts. In the end, all the practising was worth it. Everyone loved it. Our first time away from home. We waved goodbye to our parents before setting off to Burwell. In just one hour, we had arrived. We slept with all our friends and had fun. We visited Wood Green and saw all the amazing animals and how they looked after them. Now we are moving into Year Four.

Roman Day was a great experience. The people who came in taught us how the Romans lived and survived. Two of the other amazing days were spent making oil lamps and electric toys. We had such an amazing time going to Rock UK. Climbing great heights and canoeing. The Lion King was the best play ever.  

In Year Five, we were in a new year and didn’t know any of the teachers.  Once we did, it got even better and the school trips were amazing, like the Isle of Wight (where we did lots of walking and activities). The people that didn’t go to the Isle Of Wight went to the zoo for a day. Other activities in school were making pizzas and clay pots. In English, we learnt all about Shakespeare.

Legoland was amazing because we got to go on lots of rides and saw a miniature lego town. It was adorable. PGL was an amazing experience because we face our fears of heights and the dark. We were in groups and did different activities such as going through tunnels and on the big swing. We also abseiled down from high heights.

When we went to Duxford, we saw all the planes that were used in WWII. We saw Spitfires and Hurricanes. We also saw all the different medals earned by soldiers and how horrible the shelters were.

We will miss you Crosshall and we hope for the best for everyone.

Year Six Curriculum - Summer 2018

Home Learning Information for Year Six

This coming term, the home learning expectations are as follows:

Before the Easter break, parents received information about home learning in the lead up to the 'national curriculum tests' (SATs). Check your inbox if you missed this.

In school, we have a weekly focus on a spelling rule. A list of spellings to learn that follow the week's rule will be provided. (20 minutes)

Children should read on a daily basis. Renaissance Home Connect enables parents to see information about their child's progress within Accelerated Reader.

After the week of the 'national curriculum tests', Home Learning will operate as it did in previous terms. This home learning will be set on a Thursday and will be due in the following Tuesday.

Class teachers will let their class know the day of the week spelling tests will take place.

The science of snow

As snowflakes fell on Friday, some pupils in Year Six took part in a Science lesson about snow. They found out about the process of how a snowflake is formed, watched a slow-motion video of this and learnt the chemical structure of snow. 

After they had learnt all of this information, they ventured to the Year Six creativity board to write down what they had learnt. 

        

The pupils were also encouraged to tap into their creativity by writing a poem about snowflakes, some fantastic examples are below:

Writers in Year 6

Before half term, Year Six were writing non-chronological reports about their chosen animal or sport. The end product? A plethora of wonderfully informative and interesting reports. Below are just a few of the excellent examples:
